Anahat Singh made history by becoming the Senior National Squash Championships’ youngest championship winner, defeating Tanvi Khana, who was forced to retire due to injury midway through the match. Anahat, who is 15 years old and 12 years younger than Khanna, lost the first game 9-11. However, she mounted a comeback in the second set and lead 6-4 before Khanna sustained a knee injury. As a result, Khana withdrew soon after, and Anahat became the youngest title winner in 23 years.
Joshna Chinappa has the distinction for being India’s youngest champion, having won her first of 19 national titles at the age of 14 in 2000.
Anahat, who lost to Chinappa in last year’s final, was competing in her second competition. She was the youngest athlete to represent India at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, at the age of 14. At the 2023 Asian Games, she won team bronze and mixed doubles bronze.
