FIFA Women’s World Cup : Morocco’s run ended by France, Colombia earns a historic win in Quarters

On a day when France eliminated Morocco from the World Cup, Colombian players continued to sing and dance on the ground long after their side earned its first-ever trip to the Women’s World Cup quarterfinals.

Colombia defeated Jamaica 1-0, thanks to a goal from Catalina Usme in the second half. The winner of the match will advance to the semifinals of the biggest football competition. Columbia will go to Sydney to play against European champion England in the semifinals on Saturday.

France beat Morocco

Tuesday’s match between France and Morocco at Adelaide’s Hindmarsh Stadium had only lasted 23 minutes when France went ahead 3-0 and appeared headed for a clash with fellow host Australia.

The French scored once more in the second half to finish with a 4-0 victory and put an end to Morocco’s historic World Cup debut journey. As it became evident that his team would advance to the Women’s World Cup quarterfinals, France coach Herve Renard gave a team high-five on the sidelines.
