Following its remarkable comeback victory in the Asian Champions Trophy, the Indian men’s hockey team rose one spot to third in the FIH World Rankings, surpassing England in the most recent improvement to the list.
With 2746 points, the men’s hockey team was in fourth place, just 15 points behind England (2761). When the ranking was updated on July 7 following the conclusion of the FIH Pro League, the top-ranked Netherlands were at 3133 points while Belgium were at second spot with 2918 points.
India gained enough points from winning the Asian Champions Trophy to raise their total to 2771.35, passing England, which now has 2763.50 points, and moved up to third place in the rankings.
With 3095.90 points, the Netherlands kept their top spot, followed by Olympic champion Belgium at 2917.87.
With their triumphant run at the recently concluded Asian Champions Trophy, India became the most successful team in the competition, breaking their previous record of three victories (two outright and one split with Pakistan). India had already won the championship in the first year, 2011, and again in 2016.
In Muscat, Oman, where the match was postponed due to rain, they split the championship with Pakistan in 2018.
