In a thrilling women’s 4×400-meter relay on Sunday, Femke Bol produced an incredible closing leg to win gold for the Netherlands in the World Championships.
Anchor Bol received the baton in third place, about 20 metres behind leaders Jamaica and Britain, and she was still far behind both teams entering the final straight.
Bol, who narrowly missed taking home the gold in the 400-meter hurdles on opening night’s 4×400-meter mixed relay, passed Britain’s Nicole Yeargin before edging Jamaica’s Stacey Ann Williams at the finish line.
The Dutch won in 3:20.72s, Jamaica won silver for the second time in a row in 3:20.88, and Britain won bronze in 3.21.04.
