In the men’s singles final on Sunday, rising Indian shuttler Kiran George defeated Japan’s Koo Takahashi in straight games to win the Indonesia Masters trophy and earn his second BWF World Tour Super 100 championship.
In a 56-minute match, the 23-year-old from Kochi, who had already won his first championship at the Odisha Open the previous year, defeated world No. 82 Takahashi. Takahashi gradually closed the gap to 19–20 before the Indian won the first game.
Following the switch of allegiance, the pair once more fought in a close combat, moving together until Kiran finally managed to break away at 6-6. However, Takahashi continued to breathe down his neck and was able to draw a 19-19 tie.
After blowing his first game point, Kiran maintained his composure to convert his second.
The world No. 50 made it to the final while Kiran overcame veteran Tommy Sugiarto 23-21, 16-21, 21-8 after earlier defeating Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul of Thailand, Takuma Obayashi of Japan, Jia Wei Joel Koh of Singapore, and Huang Yu Kai of Chinese Taipei.
