Asian record holder Tajinderpal Singh Toor defeated Mohammed Tolo of Saudi Arabia to win the men’s shot put gold medal at the Asian Games 2023.
After Praduman Singh (1954,1958), Joginder Singh (1966,1970), and Bahadur Singh Chauhan (1978,1982), Tajinder became the fourth male shot putter from India to win two gold medals at the Asian Games.
Tajinder didn’t throw at all when he first started, and his early tosses appeared to lack some rhythm. He didn’t make a mark on either of his first or second throws. Tajinder moved up to third place after throwing 19.51 in the third throw to maintain his position in the race. Tajinder needed to surpass Mohammed Tolo’s previous record of 20.18 metres on his final throw, and the Asian champion beat the Saudi thrower by 20.36 metres to win the gold.
