WNBA: Aces overcome Liberty to capture a second consecutive championship

The Las Vegas Aces defeated the New York Liberty 70-69 in Game 4 of the Finals on Wednesday to win the WNBA championship for the second time in a row.

The Aces overcame a 12-point hole in Brooklyn and became the first club to repeat as champions in more than 20 years with to A’ja Wilson’s 24 points and 16 rebounds. Against a diminished Aces team, New York looked to be on course to salvage their first Finals appearance in twenty-one years, but a costly mistake-filled second half proved to be their downfall. Thanks to outstanding performances from guard Courtney Vandersloot and forward Betnijah Laney, New York enjoyed a dominating advantage at halftime. However, in the third quarter, Las Vegas came to life, outshooting the home team 23–12.

With only a few seconds remaining, Sabrina Ionescu made a clutch jump shot to bring New York within one point, but their desperate attempts to seal the win fell short.
