In the men’s shot put F46 event, reigning world champion Sachin Sarjerao Khilari captured the gold medal, giving India their greatest-ever medal haul at the Asian Para Games. Athletes competing in F46 events have disabilities affecting one or more upper limbs, reduced muscle strength, or reduced passive range of motion. Khilari, who won gold earlier this year at the Para Athletics World Championships in Paris by setting an Asian record with a throw of 16.21 metres, finished first in Hangzhou with a throw of 16.03 metres. Khilari’s attempt surpassed China’s Wei Enlong’s 2018 record of 15.67 metres to set a new Games record. In the five-man final, India’s Rohit Kumar took home the bronze with a best throw of 14.56 metres, while Enlong finished in second place with a throw of 14.93 metres.
With an Asian Para Games record score of 247.7 in the R6 mixed 50m rifle prone SH1 event, Sidhartha Babu won the gold medal in shooting. With a score of 247.5, Chao Dong of China earned the silver medal, and Abdulla Sultan Hamad Alaryani of the UAE took home the bronze with 226.6. With a score of 119.6, Avani Lekhara, the other competitor from India, came in last in the eight-shooter final.
