A record 1.25 million people attended the World Cup

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), a record 1.25 million fans attended matches during the 13th edition of the World Cup, which finished on Sunday with Australia defeating hosts India for their sixth title.

 

The overall number of spectators in the stands for the October 5-November 19 showcase event was 1,250 307, breaking the previous record of 1.016 million established at the 2015 edition in Australia and New Zealand. While there were many of vacant seats in stadiums during the early matches that did not involve runners-up India, overall attendance had already reached one million with six games remaining.

 

The one-day international (ODI) tournament, according to ICC Head of Events Chris Tetley, was a “great success.”
