Vijayveer Sidhu wins India’s 17th Olympic quota for Paris 2024

At the Asian shooting competition in Jakarta, Indonesia, Vijayveer Sidhu took home a silver medal and the Olympic quota in rapid fire pistol. It was the second Indian Olympic quota in rapid fire pistol, following Anish Bhanwala’s victory, and the 17th Olympic quota for shooting at the Paris Games.

With the exception of one event in women’s air pistol, India has won every Olympic quota in rifle and pistol. A nation is limited to 24 Olympic quota spots, with eight spots awarded to each gender for the pistol, rifle, and shotgun events.

Vijayveer had a low qualifying score of 577, but he showed great skill in the final. But Kazakhstan’s Nikita Chiryukin proved better, taking the gold by a margin of four points to claim the Olympic quota in fine fashion.
