India’s Nishant gets a successful start at the World Olympic Boxing Qualifier

LaFond’s prior best results included winning the Diamond League in Paris in 2022, as well as silver and bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games.

Nishant Dev, a World Championships bronze medalist, began his campaign at the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifier with a thrilling 3-1 victory over British boxer Lewis Richardson in Busto Arsizio, Italy. Fighting in the men’s 71kg category, Nishant took little time to settle in against Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Richardson and went on the offensive right away, winning the opening round 4-1.

The 23-year-old Indian dominated the second round with his long reach and some effective right hooks, winning 5-0. He put on a disciplined performance in the third round as well, avoiding many attacks from his opponent while attempting to defend his lead and eventually winning.
