Therion Nel fired a final-round 71 to beat Vaughn van Deventer by one stroke at Benoni Country Club, finishing on 11-under par.
Although he performed well enough in the final round, particularly on the back nine, when he recorded three birdies and one bogey, it was a nerve-racking final round for Nel as Van Deventer surged for victory. Nel’s front nine was also not awful. He was one over par throughout that stretch and had some big-match temperament on the way home. This is how important the circuit is to the players.
