Sharath Kamal returns to the top of India’s ITTF standings following Singapore Smash.

Sharath Kamal recovered India’s No. 1 ranking with a big rise in the new ITTF Rankings , following his spectacular performance at last week’s Singapore Smash. The 41-year-old Sharath started the competition as a qualifier but ended up making it to the quarterfinals, beating World No. 13 Darko Jorgic and World No. 22 Omar Assar on the way. As a result, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion moved up from 88th to 34th in the men’s singles rankings. Harmeet Desai (65th) and Manav Thakkar (74th) are the two other Indian men in the top 100.

Despite dropping two ranks, Manika Batra (38th) is India’s top-ranked woman in the singles. Sreeja Akula advanced three places to 47th, while Yashaswini Ghorpade remains World No. 100 after climbing one place.
