Sreeja Akula wins WTT Feeder Beirut singles title

Indian paddler Sreeja Akula won the women’s singles gold in the WTT Feeder Beirut II in Beirut, Lebanon. The world number 47 Indian came from behind to defeat Luxembourg’s Sarah D Nutte 6-11, 12-10, 11-5, 11-9 at Al Kawthar Secondary School.

The 25-year-old Commonwealth Games mixed doubles gold medalist had previously defeated South Korea’s top seed, world number 36, Suh Hyo Won.
This is Sreeja’s second WTT singles title. She’d won the Feeder Corpus Christi in January.

However, Sreeja was unable to achieve double triumphs when she was defeated in the women’s doubles final. The Indian couple, partnered by Diya Chitale, lost 4-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-6 to Doo Hoi Kem and Zhu Chengzhu of Hong Kong.
