At the Kazakhstan International Challenge competition in Astana, women’s and men’s singles champions, respectively, were Anupama Upadhyaya and M. Tharun.
In an all-Indian women’s final, Anupama Upadhyaya defeated Isharani Baruah with a score of 21-15, 21-16 in 41 minutes, defeating the former Junior World No. 1 player. The 19-year-old has already won the Polish Open in 2022 and this year, the Tajikistan International Series in 2023, and the India International Challenge in 2021.
Eighth-seeded Malaysian Soong Joo Ven was defeated by Tharun in the men’s final, 21-10, 21-19. The 22-year-old Tharun, who finished second in the national championships, won his maiden championship on the senior circuit.
The Sanjai Srivatsa Dhanraj-Maneesha K combination lost their mixed doubles match against Malaysia’s Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien 21-9, 7-21, and 12-21.
