India retains men’s individual and team gold in Asia-Oceania 24-hr ultra-running c’ships

At the IAU 24-hour Asia-Oceania Ultrarunning Championships in Canberra, Australia, Amar Singh Devanda broke his own national record en route to retaining the individual gold medal and leading the men’s team to the top of the podium for the second time in a row.

 

Devanda won the gold in the race, which concluded on Sunday, with a distance covered in the 24-hour marathon of 272.537 km.

In the 2022 edition, which was held in Bengaluru, he had again won a gold medal after covering a distance of 257.618 kilometres. The Athletics Federation of India said that Devanda almost 15 miles ahead of his previous national record.

Saurav Ranjan placed fourth with 240.137 km, and Ullas Narayana, one of the other Indian competitors, finished third with 245.574 km. The men’s Indian team, with a cumulative distance of 758.248 km, also kept the gold medal.
