The Chennai Super Kings were back on track after easily defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets in an IPL match played here on Monday. Ravindra Jadeja made the most of a sticky Chepauk pitch.
After losing their last two away games, CSK’s victory streak stands at five games, all of which have occurred at Chepauk. Jadeja, whose spin bowling has frequently suffered in recent years, got three wickets in eight deliveries to thoroughly destroy KKR, who could only muster 137 for 9 on a surface where making strokes became challenging.
The captain Ruturaj Gaikwad struck 58-ball-67 and was duly supported by Daryl Mitchell (25 off 19 balls) and the in-form Shivam Dube (28 off 18 balls), so the chase wasn’t an issue. In 17.4 overs, the chase was finished. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was present in the middle, appropriately, when they eventually scored the winning runs.
