The Mumbai Indians (MI) were defeated by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by four wickets at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. In the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, this is LSG’s sixth victory. LSG made a few changes to their side, won the toss, and decided to bowl first. For them, Ashton Turner, Mayank Yadav, and Naveen-ul-Haq entered the side. Luke Wood was replaced by Gerald Coetzee at MI. The bowlers for LSG played well together to limit a potent MI batting lineup to just 144, with most of the damage coming during the powerplay.
In the second over, Mohsin Khan gave Rohit Sharma a straight ball to the cover field after he had earlier scooped the ball for a boundary. Suryakumar Yadav got off to a good start as well, launching a six over the leg-side, but Marcus Stoinis answered with a wicket, squeezing him for space and forcing him to edge one to the wicketkeeper down the leg-side. It only got worse for MI when Tilak Varma was run out by Ravi Bishnoi in the final over of the powerplay. When Naveen got an edge past the wicketkeeper, Hardik Pandya walked out and was out of the game on the first ball. At 28 for 4 in six overs, MI were clearly in serious trouble.
