Rublev ousts Fritz to reach Madrid Open final

At the Madrid Open on Friday, Andrey Rublev defeated American Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-3 to go to his fifth Masters 1000 final of the year. After losing his previous four matches going into the competition, the seventh-seeded Rublev bounced back in the capital of Spain, taking home five noteworthy victories, including a quarterfinal victory over world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz.

Rublev was broken in the first game, but he bounced back quickly, winning the final seven points to finish the first set in 39 minutes. In the sixth game of the second set, the Russian broke the serve, which was sufficient to seal a 72-minute triumph and secure a final match against either Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic or Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada.
