The Emilia-Romagna MotoGP was won by Enea Bastianini, and Jorge Martin’s lead in the championship standings was increased as a result of Francesco Bagnaia, a major title competitor, retiring. Even though Bastianini, the eventual winner, passed him on the last lap, Martin was able to gain 24 points due to the fall of the previous champion Bagnaia with seven laps remaining.
With six GP weekends remaining, Bastianini’s second GP victory of the season brought the Ducati rider to within 59 points of Martin. Despite taking advantage of Bagnaia’s error to finish on the podium, Marc Marquez continues to fall short in his pursuit of a seventh MotoGP championship.
The Gresini rider Marquez, who will pair up with Bagnaia in the Ducati factory squad for the upcoming season, has fallen behind Bastianini in the standings and is now 60 points behind fellow Spaniard Martin. Martin was quickest off the line and started second on the grid, but Bagnaia caught up to him swiftly on the first set of turns before the Variante del Parco turn.
