Fredy Chawngthansanga and Shighil Nambrath, two young Indian footballers, have signed two-year contracts with NorthEast United FC, the club announced on Thursday.
Both Fredy and Shighil Nambrath developed their abilities while playing for Bengaluru FC’s youth team, displaying their talent in 2nd Division League games. They achieved a surprising triumph at the 2023 Reliance Foundation Development League National Championship earlier this year as a result of their outstanding performances.
The 20-year-old midfielders are currently working out with NorthEast United FC’s first team in an effort to establish themselves in the Indian Super League (ISL).
Naushad Moosa, an assistant coach for NorthEast United FC, praised the two new recruits after closely observing the players develop while playing for Bengaluru FC.
The Mizoram-born Fredy expressed his pride on joining the club.
“I’m proud to represent NorthEast United FC, especially since I’m from the Northeast. The club’s emphasis on developing new talent exactly matches my goals. I’m anxious to pick up new skills and adjust to the rigours of the ISL, and with the coaching staff’s help, I think I can have a big influence on the pitch,” he stated.
NorthEast United FC CEO Mandar Tamhane emphasised the club’s vision for nurturing young talent.
“The signings of Fredy and Shighil represent our ongoing commitment to the development of young people. These two gifted athletes join our team with the intention of making an impact in the ISL. As a club, we are eager to give them the tools and direction they need to succeed because they exemplify our aim of developing young talent and building a promising future for Indian football,” said Tamhane.
