AAC 2023: Jyothi Yarraji Wins First Gold for India in Women’s 100m Hurdles

Star Indian hurdler Jyothi Yarraji claimed the women’s 100m hurdles gold at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok on Thursday.

This was the first time an Indian woman topped the hurdles event. Yarraji from Andhra Pradesh trained at Odisha RF Athletics HPC.

She clocked 13.09 seconds to win the hurdles final ahead of Japanese runners Terada Asuka (13.13s) and Aoki Masumi (13.26s) on a rain-drenched track at Bangkok’s Supachalasai National Stadium.

India went on to win 2 more gold medals through the efforts of Abdulla Aboobacker in men’s triple jump and Ajay Kumar in men’s 1500m.

Aishwarya Mishra (women’s 400m) and Tejaswin Shankar (decathlon) picked up bronze medals. On Wednesday, Abhishek Pal had opened India’s medal account with a bronze in men’s 10,000m.
