American Malnati snaps nine-year PGA drought with Valspar win

With a crucial birdie on the last hole, Peter Malnati ended a nine-year winning streak on Sunday by winning the US PGA Tour Valspar Championship.

The 36-year-old American won by two strokes over fellow countryman Cameron Young at Innisbrook’s Copperhead course in Palm Harbor, Florida, after shooting a final round four-under par 67 to finish 72 holes on 12-under 272.

Malnati, who is currently ranked 184th, has only won once in 258 career PGA starts, and that was at the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2015. Malnati rejoiced on the 18th green with his family more than 3,000 days later.
