An Se Young, the world no. 1 and defending champion of Korea, withdrew from the India Open Super 750 badminton tournament in pain against Jia Min Yeo of Singapore after worsening her knee ailment in a women’s singles match. Young, 21, was behind 19–21 and had injured her knee during the October Asian Games when she made the decision to give up.
As a result, the world No. 20 Singaporean won just her second match against Young, who had started the season strong with a championship run at the Malaysia Open Super 1000 the previous week. Jia Min will next play in a quarterfinal against Tai Tzu Ying, the former world number one who defeated He Bing Jiao, the sixth seed from China, 21-12 21-12.
