Asian Indoor Athletics Championship 2024: Tajinderpal Singh Toor breaks the indoor national record to win gold medal

Tajinderpal Singh Toor won the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024 gold medal with a record throw of 19.72 metres in the Aftab e Enghelab Sports Complex in Tehran, cementing his dominance at the continental level. Tajinderpal Singh Toor smashed Vikash Gowda’s 19-year-old indoor national record of 19.60m (2005 in the USA) on his third attempt of the evening. He managed another throw of 19.27m as the event’s sole performer.

Ivan Ivanov was a distant second with 19.02m, while Dhanveer Singh finished fourth with an 18.59m throw. Iran’s Mehdi Saberi won the bronze medal with an 18.74m throw.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor is now the Asian leader in outdoor track and field sports, with an Asian and national record of 21.77 metres (set in Bhubaneswar last year). This was India’s third medal of the day, and all of them were gold medals, with Jyothi Yarraji (60m hurdles) and Harmilan Bains (1500m) dominating the all-women morning sessions.
