Sarabjot Singh of India won bronze in the 10m air pistol event on Tuesday, opening their account at the Asian shooting championships in Changwon. It guaranteed India’s first berth from pistol events at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. India has eight Olympic quota slots available to it. The others who have secured shooting berths are Swapnil Kusale, Akhil Sheoran (both 50m rifle 3 positions), Sift Kaur Samra (women’s 50m 3P), Rudrankksh Patil and Mehuli Ghosh (10m air rifle), Bhowneesh Mendiratta and Rajeshwari Kumari (both trap). Those who have earned the seats are typically chosen, even though they are for the country.
Singh shot 221.1 in the final, trailing only Yifan Zhang (243.7) and Liu Jinyao (242.1), the winners of gold and silver, respectively, from China. The 12 events at the Asian Championships provide a total of 24 quota places, meaning that the top two finishers in each event will receive a quota. But Sarabjot received the quota spot because China had already won the maximum two spots from previous qualifying events.
