At the ATP Finals, a furious Andrey Rublev self-destructs while Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz wins easily

Carlos Alcaraz of Spain returned to form at the ATP Finals, defeating a troubled Andrey Rublev 7-5 6-2 to rekindle his hopes in Red Group. Although world No. 2 Alcaraz lost to Alexander Zverev in the first round of the round robin, he bounced back with a self-assured performance, even though it was against a Russian who was unravelling. Rublev held on for the first set, but faltered at 5-5 when he gave up the serve, allowing Alcaraz to win the opening set with ease. The second set began with Rublev dropping the serve, which quickly spiralled out of control. After giving Alcaraz a break point, he threw down his racket, and after the player blasted a shot wide, he repeatedly smashed his racket into his leg.

After that, it seemed as though Rublev was playing against both Alcaraz and the Spaniard. In little over an hour, the fight came to its logical end
