Bopanna-Ebden pair advance to the US Open semifinals.

Before defeating Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow to advance to the US Open men’s doubles semifinals and make their second consecutive final-four appearance in Grand Slams this year, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden saved seven set points in the opening set.

The American combo was defeated by the sixth-seeded Indo-Australian duo 7-6 (10) 6-1 in the hard-court major quarterfinals. Bopanna and Ebden lost to Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski in the Wimbledon Championships semifinal round.

The 43-year-old Indian now has the chance to qualify for his second Grand Slam men’s doubles final in his career. It’s interesting to note that Bopanna only participated in his first Major final at the US Open in 2010. The French team of Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut will now take on the sixth-seeded team after defeating American Robert Galloway and Frenchman Albano Olivetti in the second quarterfinal.

Bopanna and her Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi’s defeat in the second round has already eliminated her from the mixed doubles competition.
