Dean Burmester of South Africa won his third European Tour title with a three-shot victory in the Joburg Open in Johannesburg.
His most recent victory came at the Tenerife Open two years ago, and he also won the Tshwane Open in 2017. Burmester, who was three strokes behind compatriot Thriston Lawrence going into the final round in 31 degrees Celsius heat, won with a faultless six-birdie 64 on the par-70 course. Burmester finished on 262, three strokes ahead of fellow South African Darren Fichardt, who also shot a final-round 64.
Don Bradbury of England shot a 64 to finish third and be the best foreigner on a leaderboard that included eight South Africans in the top 11. Lawrence, a four-time European Tour champion, lost his lead after a dismal front nine that included a double bogey and two bogeys. Another double bogey on the back nine sealed his fate, as he finished in a tie for seventh place with Malaysian Gavin Green.
