Clinical Sinner surges past Zverev to retain Australian Open title

A composed Jannik Sinner dominated Alexander Zverev to defend his Australian Open title on Sunday, solidifying his status as the world’s top player and making history as the first Italian to win three Grand Slam titles.

The 23-year-old triumphed in a hard-fought contest between the world’s top two players, securing a 6-3, 7-6 (7/4), 6-3 victory on Rod Laver Arena. As he celebrated, raising his arms and looking skyward, Sinner also surpassed Nicola Pietrangeli to become the most successful Italian Grand Slam champion.

His win places him in elite company alongside Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic as one of the few men to successfully defend the Australian Open title in this century.
