Canada’s Denis Shapovalov completed a stunning run to claim the Dallas Open title on Sunday, defeating Norway’s world No. 5 Casper Ruud 7-6 (7/5), 6-3 to secure his third career ATP crown.
Unseeded, Shapovalov became only the fifth player since 2020 to defeat the tournament’s top three seeds en route to an ATP title and just the fourth since 2009 to overcome three top-10 opponents on his way to a 250- or 500-level championship.
Earlier, he eliminated two home favorites, beating world No. 4 Taylor Fritz in the second round and ninth-ranked defending champion Tommy Paul in the semifinals.
This 500-level title is the biggest of Shapovalov’s career, adding to his victories in Stockholm (2018) and Belgrade (2023), marking a remarkable comeback from injury since mid-2023.
