On Wednesday, Novak Djokovic advanced to the third round of the US Open by defeating Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-4, 6-1, 6-1, maintaining his unblemished record in the tournament this year.
The Serbian was brilliant again against Zapata Miralles, saving all six break points he faced to progress after two hours and two minutes. On Monday, September 11, the Serbian won his opening match in straight sets to ensure his return to No. 1 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings.
Only 11 games have been lost by the 36-year-old in his first two games. Djokovic will next face Laslo Djere after the Serbian defeated Hugo Gaston 6-1, 6-2, 6-3. Djokovic last competed in New York in 2021 when he reached the final.
After winning a record-extending 39th ATP Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati earlier this month, Djokovic now has a 40-5 record for the season.
