Duplantis triumphs in Berlin

Mondo Duplantis, an Olympic and world champion in the pole vault, won the Berlin indoor competition on Friday with a height of 6.06 metres, but he was unable to break the previous world record of 6.22 metres in any of his three attempts. After his 6.10m in Uppsala the previous week, it was the Swede’s second six-meter clearance of the winter season and his 42nd overall. Duplantis easily won on Friday at distances of 5.60 metres, 5.82 metres, 5.91 metres, and 6.06 metres before failing in his bid to break his own world record of 6.21 metres established in Eugene in July of last year. After that, he will choose whether or not to compete in the European Indoor Championships, which will be held in Istanbul from March 2–5.
