: Elias Becomes First South American champion in CIB PSA World Championships

Diego Elias is the first South American to win the CIB PSA World Championships after defeating Mostafa Asal in straight games. He made it to the finals by beating the defending champion Ali Farag in the semi-finals, making history with his first World title.
Known as ‘The Peruvian Puma,’ Elias is the first non-Egyptian to win the PSA World Championships since Gregory Gaultier beat Omar Mosaad in 2015.
The last time Elias and Asal played each other was in February at the Windy City Open, where Asal won. In the opening game, Asal led 5-3, but Elias made a great comeback, winning eight of the next nine points to take the game 11-6.
World No. 3 Elias won two games in a row against Asal, who struggled in the second game while trying to catch up. Elias successfully handled everything Asal threw at him.
