Erling Haaland smashes Nistelrooy’s record

On a night when European heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan failed to get going, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City defeated RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League group stage. In the 54th minute, defending champions Manchester City’s superstar Haaland opened the score against RB Leipzig at the Etihad Stadium. Haaland has already scored 40 goals in the Champions League at the age of 23.

Man City’s goal machine broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record for the fewest games needed to score 40 Champions League goals. The Manchester City striker accomplished the mark in 35 games, while ex-Manchester United forward Van Nistelrooy scored 40 goals in 45 games.  Haaland has also joined icons Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Aguero, Didier Drogba and Mohamed Salah in a special club. Haaland is one of the seven players to have scored at least 50 Premier League goals and 40 Champions League goals.
