European Athletics Championships: Jakob Ingebrigtsen wins record sixth gold

Norway’s Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen made European history in Rome by winning the 1500m race. This victory made him the most successful male athlete in Europe. At just 23 years old, Ingebrigtsen has now won both the 1500m and 5000m events three times—at the Rome championships, as well as in Berlin in 2018 and Munich in 2022.

Other athletes, like Britons Mo Farah and Roger Black and West Germany’s Harald Schmid, have also won six European medals, but their totals included five golds and one silver.

During the race in Rome, Ingebrigtsen started by staying at the back of the group, letting Spain’s Ignacio Fontes set the pace at the Stadio Olimpico.
