F1: Charles Leclerc wins Monaco Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc of Ferrari made history by becoming the first winner of Formula One’s premier race to return home since Louis Chiron’s victory in 1931, with a stunning triumph in Monaco. The 26-year-old stood on the Monaco podium for the first time in six attempts.

The race included two standing starts from pole position and was interrupted by first-lap crashes that resulted in the deaths of five competitors. On the circuit known for its ceremonial races, Oscar Piastri of McLaren finished second, 7.1 seconds behind Leclerc, and Carlos Sainz of Ferrari came in third.

Max Verstappen, the 2023 Monaco winner and current Red Bull championship leader, started and finished sixth, making it only the third time in eight races this season that the triple world champion did not win. Lando Norris of McLaren finished fourth, and George Russell of Mercedes finished fifth.
