Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon set a new world record in the women’s 1500m at the Paris Diamond League meet, beating her own previous record. With the help of two pacemakers, she took the lead and finished in 3 minutes and 49.04 seconds at Stade Charlety. She improved her old record by 0.07 seconds, which she had set in Florence in June 2023.
At 30 years old, Kipyegon is expected to be a top contender at the upcoming Summer Games in Paris. She is already a two-time Olympic 1500m champion and has three world titles. Last year at the Budapest world championships, she won both the 5000m and the 1500m races.
