Francesco Bagnaia, the two-time MotoGP champion, finished ahead of his competitor Jorge Martin by five points after winning the Austrian Grand Prix, completing a weekend double. On the second lap, the Italian Ducati rider passed Martin of Prima Pramac Racing, having dominated practice and won the sprint. He had qualified second on the grid.
Martin finished in second place at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg after smashing the lap record to take pole position. Third place went to Enea Bastianini, completing an all-Ducati podium. With his win, Bagnaia now leads Martin by five points at 275, while Bastianini stays in third place with 214. Once Bagnaia had a clean path ahead of him, Martin was unable to keep up with him and he could not be stopped. Bagnaia won the Austrian Grand Prix for the third time in a row, crossing the finish line much ahead of the pursuing field.
Six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez, who was third fastest in qualifying, recovered from a poor start by sliding wide on the first lap to finish fourth. The 31-year-old, who now holds the fourth position in the championship standings, crashed out of the race as well.
