The Global Chess League (GCL), a partnership between Tech Mahindra and world chess organisation FIDE, released its official logo on Wednesday. The design is a representation of a chess board with 64 squares.
The logo was unveiled 64 days before the first-ever GCL began operations, a figure that is well-known in the chess community.This year’s GCL, the biggest and first league-styled chess competition ever, will run from June 21 to July 2.Six teams with six players each, including a minimum of two female players and one icon player per side, will compete in the first GCL.
In the competition, each team will participate in 10 matches in the fast style on each of the six boards.The victorious team will be proclaimed the global champion franchise team. The top two teams from the round-robin format will advance to the final on July 2.
