Indian shooters begin Granada 10m World Cup with two junior gold medals.

India opened their ISSF World Cup 10m and Junior WC 10m campaign in Granada, Spain, winning two gold medals on the first day of competition. Isha Anil Taksale earned India’s first gold medal in the junior women’s 10m air rifle, while Umamahesh Maddineni won the same event for the men. Isha shot 251.8 in the finals, while Umamahesh shot 252.1.

In the men’s event, India swept the medals, with Parth Mane and Ajay Malik winning silver and bronze, respectively.

Shambhavi Kshirsagar earned bronze in the women’s junior air rifle, giving India five medals for the day.

Isha’s 630.9 was enough to place first in the qualifying field, leading a group of three Indians into the top eight. After the first five shots of the final, she trailed Bangladesh’s Jafira Chowdhary. But Isha took the lead after the second five and never looked back, eventually winning the gold.

Shambhavi, who qualified second, finished third behind Britain’s Gwenlian Thorne.  It was even better for Umamahesh, who dominated the final from the start to beat compatriot Parth Mane, who had previously pipped him to first place in qualification.

A 34-member Indian shooting group is competing in the World Cup, which will only include junior and senior 10m air gun categories.
