At the 2024 Asian Relay Championships, the Indian 4x400m mixed relay team, consisting of Muhammad Ajmal, Jyothika Sri, Amoj Jacob, and Subha Venkatesan, broke the national record. They won gold with a time of 3:14.12, beating the previous record by 0.22 seconds.
The previous national record of 3:14.34 was set by another Indian team at the 2023 Asian Games, which also included Ajmal and Subha. In this competition, Vietnam won the bronze medal, and Sri Lanka took the silver.
Earlier this month at the World Athletics Relays in Nassau, Bahamas, fourteen mixed 4×400-meter teams automatically qualified for the Paris Olympics. Two more spots will be filled based on the best times until the June 30 qualification deadline.
On the second day of the championships, India will compete in the women’s and men’s 4×400-meter relay events. Both teams have already qualified for Paris in the second-round heat races.
