India’s Neeraj Chopra wins his 2nd Diamond League

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra maintained his outstanding form by winning the renowned one-day meeting series in Lausanne after returning from a one-month injury layoff. This was Chopra’s second straight victory of the season.

The season’s opening event in Doha was won by Neeraj, the defending Diamond League champion, with an effort of 88.67m. Due to a muscle problem he suffered while training last month, the 25-year-old Chopra missed three major competitions. However, he came back strong and won the Diamond League title today with his fifth-round throw of 87.66 metres.

He committed a foul before throwing 83.52 and 85.04 metres. In the fourth round, he committed another foul before making his 87.66-meter winning throw. His sixth and last throw measured 84.15 metres.

Julian Weber of Germany came in second with a best throw of 87.03 metres, and Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic came in third with a throw of 86.13 metres. Chopra had already won the Diamond League’s Lausanne leg in August of last year. A month later, in the championship game, he went on to capture the Diamond League title.

On May 5, the Indian superstar won the Diamond League competition in Doha with a throw of 88.67 metres. His personal best is 89.94 metres.
