Indonesia’s Juniansyah wins men’s 73kg gold in weightlifting

Indonesia’s Rizki Juniansyah won the men’s 73kg Olympic weightlifting title at the Paris Games with a total lift of 354kg, setting a new Olympic record in the clean and jerk. China’s reigning champion, Shi Zhiyong, was unable to complete his lifts. Juniansyah lifted 155kg in the snatch, putting himself in a strong position, and then secured the gold by lifting 199kg in the clean and jerk.

The real competition was for the silver and bronze medals. Thailand’s 19-year-old Weeraphon Wichuma took silver with a total of 346kg, just two kilos ahead of Bulgaria’s Bozhidar Andreev, but eight kilos behind Juniansyah.
