Italian cyclist Rebellin no more

Italian cyclist Davide Rebellin, 51, passed away after being struck by a truck while training close to Vicenza, according to local media. Rebellin won the Amstel Gold Race, La Fleche Wallonne, and Liege-Bastogne-Liege in a successful 2004 season. According to the local newspaper Il Gazzettino, the incident occurred at Montebello Vicentino just before midday. Rebellin, who also won an individual stage in the 1996 Giro d’Italia, died on the spot. Following a retroactive drug test, Rebellin was required to return his silver medal in the road race from the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and he resigned from professional cycling earlier this year.
