England’s James Anderson took his 700th test wicket, becoming only the third bowler in international cricket to reach the milestone.
On day three of the fifth test against India in Dharamsala, the 41-year-old removed Kuldeep Yadav to become the first fast bowler to attain this milestone.
He trails spinners Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka (800 wickets) and the late Shane Warne of Australia (708 wickets).
Anderson got overnight batter Yadav to edge a length delivery outside off, and he celebrated with his teammates. Anderson began the last match with 698 wickets after entering the series 10 runs behind.
He began his career at Lord’s against Zimbabwe in 2003 and has since appeared in 187 appearances. Anderson is known as the “swing king” because of his ability to move the ball both ways. He averages under 27 and has 32 five-wicket hauls in tests.
