The PGA Tour is under pressure to conclude an agreement to ally with the Saudi-backed league, and the Wall Street Journal stated that two-time major champion Jon Rahm is poised to sign a big deal to join LIV Golf. With its enormous compensation packages, LIV had already drawn PGA Tour players Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, and others. However, the addition of Rahm, the third-ranked player in the world and a major fan favourite, would be disastrous for the tour. According to the Wall Street Journal, Rahm’s departure might be revealed this week. Moving to LIV might land Rahm a $600 million contract, according to the Daily Mail, even though the story didn’t put a figure on the deal’s worth.
The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia and the PGA Tour revealed their intention to collaborate earlier this year. The agreement must be finalised by December 31 in order to proceed. It’s unclear how Rahm’s addition to LIV’s roster will affect the partnership. Rahm, 29, has 11 PGA Tour wins, including the 2021 U.S. Open and the 2023 Masters. With four victories at the end of the season, this was his most successful one yet.
The Spaniard, who assisted Team Europe in winning the Ryder Cup last autumn, has earned $51.5 million in his career while playing on tour since he began in 2016. His alleged LIV contract would be far larger than that.
