Jyothi Yarraji is set to become the first Indian 100m hurdler to compete in the Olympics, while shot putter Abha Khatua earned an unexpected spot through world rankings for the upcoming Paris Games. The World Athletics organization released a list of athletes who qualified directly by surpassing the entry standard and those who made it through the world ranking quota. Yarraji narrowly missed the automatic qualifying time by just one-hundredth of a second, clocking 12.78 seconds in Finland.
Nevertheless, her 34th position in the world ranking qualifies her for a spot, as 40 athletes will participate in the event.
