Letsile Tebogo roars to Botswana’s first Olympic gold

Letsile Tebogo made history by becoming the first African to win the Olympic 200 meters title, securing Botswana’s first-ever Olympic gold medal. Tebogo powered past American runners Kenny Bednarek and Noah Lyles, finishing in an impressive 19.46 seconds. Having won bronze at the World Championships last year and setting a national record of 9.86 seconds in the Paris 100m final, Tebogo’s commanding performance also made him the fifth-fastest man in history over the 200m distance.

Bednarek finished close behind him, earning his second consecutive silver medal with a time of 19.62 seconds. Lyles, who aimed to become the first American in 40 years to complete the sprint double, came in third with a time of 19.67 seconds.
