Lewis Hamilton, overwhelmed with joy, broke a 945-day drought by claiming his ninth British Grand Prix victory in front of his home fans. The seven-time Formula One world champion from Mercedes celebrated his first win since Saudi Arabia on December 5, 2021, ending a 56-race dry spell. Max Verstappen of Red Bull, a triple world champion, finished just 1.465 seconds behind, extending his overall lead to 84 points, while McLaren’s Lando Norris took third after being overtaken four laps before the finish.
Mercedes’ George Russell, who started from pole position, retired at the end of lap 33 due to a suspected water system issue. Hamilton’s victory marked his 104th career win, setting several new records, including being the first F1 driver to win in 16 different seasons and the first to secure nine wins at the same circuit. He also became the first driver to win a race after reaching 300 starts, with this victory coming in his 344th race since his debut with McLaren in 2007. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri finished fourth, and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz was fifth.
Nico Hulkenberg placed sixth for Haas, with Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso finishing eighth. Alex Albon earned two points for Williams, and Yuki Tsunoda finished 10th for the Red Bull-owned RB team.
